The
Respiratory System Protocols The respiratory system consists primarily of the nasal passages, sinuses, main bronchi, bronchioles and the lungs themselves. The conditions affecting the respiratory system that may benefit from the use of the herbal remedies fall into two main categories: inflammation or infective. Within this we also include allergies, since although the approach is slightly different, the end result is still one of inflammation. Thus, the common conditions seen by the practitioner of herbal medicine are asthma, sinusitis, acute and chronic bronchitis, hay fever and related allergy problems. ALLERGIES: Allergies are a hypersensitivity reaction to harmless substances that the body recognizes as foreign or potentially dangerous. These may range from pollens as with hay fever to substances in food or other pollutants in the air. As allergies may be caused by many substances and affect many body systems the symptoms can be very diverse. There is an allergic component to many conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, eczema and others. There are, however, common factors running through most allergies so general principles of support may be offered. In general, allergies are: - Inflammatory in nature - Symptoms are produced by mediators of inflammation in the body. - Result from hypersensitivity of the immune system - Are related to poor digestion - Have a genetic component Symptoms and Signs of Allergies: - Sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, runny or stuffy nose, wheezing and coughing, skin rashes, stomach pains, general feeling of malaise, headache, sensation of light headedness, fever, joint pains, diarrhea - Severe allergies may be life threatening by closure of the airways or anaphylactic shock Aims of Herbal Support Therapies: - To reduce inflammation by preventing the formation of inflammatory mediators as well as stabilizing cell membranes, preventing their release and preventing the breakdown of the body’s own anti-inflammatory substances - To stimulate and support digestive processes - To soothe and improve the integrity of the mucus membranes The Allerclear Protocol: 1.
