Cystitis:

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder, usually by either E. coli or Proteus.  Urinary tract infections should always be treated promptly to avoid potentially serious complications such as the infection spreading upwards to affect the kidneys (pyelonephritis).  Cystitis is far more common in women, mostly because of the differences in anatomy.
